OpenAI's inaugural developer conference, DevDay 2023
OpenAI's inaugural developer conference, DevDay 2023, marked a significant milestone in the world of generative AI. The event, hosted at SVN West in San Francisco, saw CEO Sam Altman take the stage to share the company's accomplishments and vision. Notable announcements included the introduction of GPT-4 Turbo and the unveiling of GPT Store.
Highlights from OpenAI DevDay 2023:
ChatGPT's Enormous User Base: Sam Altman revealed that ChatGPT boasts a staggering 100 million weekly users, while over 92% of Fortune 500 companies and more than 2 million developers leverage GPT modeling APIs.
Refreshed ChatGPT Interface: A new and sleek ChatGPT interface was unveiled, featuring a dark background adorned with the OpenAI logo and the welcoming text, "How can I help you today?"
GPT-4 Turbo: OpenAI presented GPT-4 Turbo as the latest iteration of their LLM GPT series. With an expanded context window of 128,000 tokens and enhanced world knowledge, this model can process images as input, produce human-like speech, and offers two variants: text-only and text + images. Furthermore, GPT-4 Turbo is more budget-friendly and OpenAI is actively working to enhance its speed.
During the event, it was announced that ChatGPT would undergo a data update until April 2023, eliminating the limitations set at September 2021. Custom ChatGPT development is in the works, allowing developers to craft specialized chatbots for specific applications with filters, custom knowledge, and specified actions. These will be accessible through a user-friendly, no-code platform, available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers and OpenAI enterprise customers.
OpenAI is also rolling out a "copyright shield" to protect customers from potential copyright infringement claims related to text generated using the GPT Enterprise API. Additionally, OpenAI is set to launch the GPT Store, a marketplace where users can sell their personalized GPT models, with incentives for those who build the most useful and popular GPTs.
Furthermore, a collaboration between OpenAI and Microsoft was announced, with Microsoft's CEO, Satya Nadella, expressing eagerness to partner on the journey toward Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
In response to user demands, OpenAI plans to provide more control and customization options for ChatGPT, offering enhanced flexibility for users in their interactions with the platform. This development seeks to meet the evolving needs of users who rely on ChatGPT for various specific applications and use cases.
