Google applies a pause in its Gemini's image generation feature, why?
Due to the rising complaints that it generated inaccurate images of history by using its AI pic generating feature, Google has decided to suspend the Gemini for now. The move follows constant complaints by the Facebook community over the depiction of historical people like the U.S. Founders as colored people who are not genuine to their history.
Social Media Backlash
Gemini became controversial following the criticism of its AI tool by the users who took to social media platforms to share their dissatisfaction which was mainly based on the way some historical figures were portrayed. Many criticized the creative approach of such images which were taken for granted as the standards of historical representation, especially when the most prominent figures of history were portrayed that way. Google has validated the criticism and acknowledged that even though the AI option was contemplated to generate highly diverse images it had "missed the mark" in accurately representing the historical contexts.
Commitment to Improvement
In an attempt to solve the problem, Google has offered the information that the image generation feature of Gemini will be suspended for a while. The tech giant said that it will develop an inclusive version of the tool that will include corrections to all the historical incidences and then relaunch an improved version. Krawczyk, senior product director of Gemini in Google, stressed the importance of Google's approach to redressing representation and bias as they pertain to historical contexts being taken very seriously. Google wants to retrain the AI so that the model could better serve the sophisticated nature of the historical depictions which will help them to be more correct in the future.
Gemini's Evolution
At the end of 2023, Google’s most recent AI progress, Gemini, was released, signaling a big AI development within the company. The tool that previously was known as Bard, after the rebranding, was introduced together with the subscription service for a more powerful version of the AI model, which is known as Gemini. Google is still going to push the limits of AI innovation despite the halt of its picture-generating function. This shows its dedication to providing cutting-edge technology, attending to user concerns, and enhancing the accuracy of material created by AI.
