Google plans to bring satellite messaging to Android 15
This beta release resolves users' complaints. It improves app understanding of service availability during satellite connectivity and enables satellite messaging using preloaded RCS applications.
Highlights:
- Enhances satellite connectivity awareness.
- Adds satellite messaging via RCS apps.
- Improves screen recording detection.
Developers now have more access to flip phone cover displays, while Android consumers benefit from increased volume control consistency.
Furthermore, PDF features have been significantly improved, with support for password-protected files, annotations, form editing, and improved search and selection capabilities.
Google's second developer preview for Android 15 has come, bringing long-awaited satellite connection functionality as well as enhancements to contactless payments, multi-language recognition, volume consistency, and PDF interaction through applications.
These developer-focused betas serve as a testing environment for features that are expected to be included in the final public version later this year. According to Google, public beta versions will be accessible for testing between April and July.
The most recent developer preview tackles some of the issues and security concerns that Android users have, such as making applications more aware of why some services may be inaccessible while utilizing a satellite connection. This also marks the first formal confirmation that Android 15 will have satellite texting. According to Google's news release, the most recent version supports "prepared RCS apps to use satellite connections for sending as well as receiving messages."
Apps will soon include screen recording detection, allowing them to inform users if their behavior is being recorded. The dependability of one-tap contactless payments for NFC-enabled applications is also being enhanced, and the multi-language audio recognition introduced in Android 14 is being polished to prevent words from being dropped when the user switches languages.
