ChatGPT gets the ‘Memory’ feature
OpenAI's ChatGPT is gaining a new feature dubbed 'Memory' that allows the AI-powered chatbot to store the "things you discuss across all chats", making subsequent chats easier because users will no longer have to reshare the information with the chatbot.
Highlights:
- OpenAI introduces a 'Memory' feature for ChatGPT, allowing it to remember conversations.
- Users have control over what ChatGPT remembers and can toggle the feature off.
- Memories evolve with interactions, can be managed in settings, and are available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers globally, except in Europe and Korea.
According to OpenAI, users will have full control over the memories saved by ChatGPT. This means you can specifically instruct the AI chatbot to remember or forget information. There is also a toggle to turn off the 'Memory' feature.
How does the ChatGPT Memory function work?
When speaking with ChatGPT, you can ask the chatbot to recall anything specific or allow it to automatically save details from your conversations. OpenAI also says that the chatbot will improve as it learns more about your discussions.
According to OpenAI, "ChatGPT's memories evolve with your interactions and aren't linked to specific conversations" and that deleting a discussion will not destroy the memory associated with it.
To disable the feature, open ChatGPT on your preferred device, navigate to the app's 'Settings', click on Personalisation, and look for the 'Memory' option. Turn the toggle off and you're good to go.
If you need ChatGPT to overlook something, you may either train it to or erase memories from the 'Manage Memory' alternative inside the 'Personalisation' part of the ChatGPT settings.
The capability, which was first introduced in February of this year, changed into previously constrained to a small institution of testers, but OpenAI has now introduced that it is now available to all ChatGPT Plus contributors, with the exception of those in Europe and Korea. However, users in sure areas can be able to circumvent these restrictions by means of using a VPN.
