Google ties up with Foxconn to make Pixel phones in India
- Foxconn to manufacture Pixel gadgets of Google in the region of Tamil Nadu, India.
- One of the measures being taken to spread the supply chain risks due to geopolitical risks.
It has been reported that Google will begin manufacturing Pixel Smartphones in India in the future.
The smartphones will be assembled at one of the facilities that is Foxconn. Foxconn is located in Tamil Nadu which is reputed for its quality industrial environment.
This step is in line with Google's earlier statement that the company intends to manufacture Pixel 8 smartphones in India proving the country’s strategic value in supply chain networks.
Foxconn Partnership
One such strategic move is the choice of Foxconn, a Taiwan-based manufacturing giant, as a partner. Foxconn currently runs two plants in Tamil Nadu, one of which is iPhone maker Apple’s affiliated production site near Chennai.
Using the services of Foxconn which already has experience in production, Google is interested in optimizing the production of Pixel smartphones and increasing its market share in India.
Focus on Advanced Models
According to inside information, Google will make enhanced models of its Pixel phones in the Tamil Nadu plant. The production is expected to start within the current year.
This development comes after the state officials met with the Google officials wherein, Tamil Nadu has highlighted its commitment to early preparation to attract global tech investments.
Strategic Diversification
The reason for making Pixel phones in India is not unique because many electronics manufacturers around the world have shifted to the strategy of diversification. Political conflicts between China and western countries have pushed the companies to look for other places to establish their manufacturing destinations.
About this, India has been known as a preferred destination owing to its vast market and liberal policies.
Google's Commitment to India
Last year in a blog post, Google reinforced this strategy for the Indian market stating, “India being a priority market for Pixel smartphones, we aim to offer the best of our hardware and underlying built-in software capabilities to the people of India.”
