Meta Expands Mixed Reality Headset Production Facilities in Vietnam
To satisfy rapidly rising global demand for its cutting-edge technology, Meta is ratcheting up manufacturing headsets in mixed reality by expanding its facilities in Vietnam. By launching this roll out, Meta is merely mirroring its overarching objectives through introducing its presence in virtual and augmented reality markets; concurrently it conveys the firm’s intention to establish a stronger foothold in Southeast Asia.
By 2024, Meta’s new production facilities in Vietnam will provide support for development of the company’s future mixed reality devices, including its wildly popular Quest line of headsets. Meta's move is part of the coordinated, worldwide push towards immersive technologies like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), however, with more companies entering the fray, Meta's aim is to build it's competitive edge. Vietnam has been a very attractive manufacturing hub for tech giants due to its cost efficient labor, proximity to important supply chains, and increasingly sophisticated infrastructures.
Highlights
1. To meet global demand, Meta is ramping up its production of its mixed reality headset in Vietnam.
2. These facilities will grow Meta’s presence in the AR/VR market with the manufacturing devices of Meta’s Quest series.
3. Because Vietnam combines proximity to major supply chains along with lower costs, the country has become a strategic manufacturing hub.
In line with Meta’s all-out commitment to the metaverse, which is essentially AR and VR’s digital world, this followed the company’s judicious investments in creating a metaverse. To keep up with the rising demand for its devices, Meta wants to increase production capacity so it can meet demand in mixed reality. The move also paves the way for Meta to contend with other big tech companies that are also investing in virtual and augmented reality technologies.
Meta has some special benefits for Vietnam: cheap production, and the possibility to quickly scale operations if needed to keep up with the market demand. A critical part of Meta’s pitch to grab market share in this growing AR/VR market, this expansion is necessary.
