Amazon's First Color Kindle Hit by Display Issues: What to Know!
Amazon’s new color Kindle, the Kindle Colorsoft, has encountered unexpected problems within days of its launch. Users report discoloration on the screen, particularly a yellowish band at the bottom, affecting the reading experience and raising questions about the device's reliability. Amazon is working to address these issues as early as possible.
Highlights:
- New Kindle Colorsoft experiences screen discoloration soon after its release.
- Amazon acknowledges the issue and offers customer support.
- Potential software update planned to fix display concerns.
- Shipment delays were announced to address quality issues.
Amazon’s Kindle Colorsoft, the first Kindle with a color display, was intended to offer an upgraded reading experience. However, within days of its launch, some users reported an odd yellowish tint appearing at the bottom of the screen. This discoloration is particularly noticeable in low-light settings, where uniform lighting is crucial for readability. Some customers are unhappy with the distraction, with a few opting to return or exchange their devices.
Amazon customer support gave mixed responses to complaints, in some cases they suggested the issue might be due to software and could be fixed with a future update. However, some users said that they began to see the yellow tint after the software update of the unit, though this is an issue that they can also think is associated with the hardware of the device. This has led to confusion for some users on whether the issue is a manufacturing flaw in specific batches or a temporary glitch.
In response to the feedback, Amazon has stopped further deliveries of the Kindle Colorsoft to address such display problems. New orders in the United States may ship by mid-November and for United King Down shipment may start as early as the end of November. As for current owners, Amazon suggested the device should be turned off and then switched on again to see if it helps reduce the display problem.
In addition to the discoloration, some customers have expressed disappointment over the lack of a true Dark Mode, a feature that inverts text and background colors for easier nighttime reading. Amazon has suggested using a “Page Color” setting as an alternative, although this does not provide the same convenience as a dedicated Dark Mode.
As Amazon works to address these issues, they encourage affected customers to reach out for support and stay tuned for potential updates. The company’s efforts to resolve the problem will likely influence future customer interest in the Kindle Colorsoft and Amazon’s reputation for quality in its e-readers.
