EX-Google employee says layoffs were tough, led to sleepless nights and body shivers
Former Google employee Gondar has taken time to reveal the effects of late layoffs at the tech company; she revealed how these layoffs affected her emotionally as well as physically. Entertainment will not be lost, and so, speaking in detail, the former staffer noted that the sudden loss of a job resulted in tossed nights and modishness, to the level that she would get body shivers.
Layoffs Hit Hard
Google was not an exception to the increasing redundancy across the technological sector of the world; it had laid off thousands of its workers. In the past, the company just mentioned a “separating of concept” due to the need to “rationalise its operations” and “respond better to the economic climate" that exists, but the faces behind the cuts have now been exposed.
The ex-employee said the experience was overwhelming, and the failure to be prepared for the change aggravated the issue. They said they couldn’t sleep for days, and stress became both mental and physical, with episodes of shivering that they couldn’t control.
A Common Struggle
Their story isn’t unique. In the tech industry, mass layoffs have reduced many a worker's insecurity, both financially and psychologically. As it turns out, most have lost an identity due to job loss since work occupies a significant role in people’s lives.
The ex-Googler observed that this cut had deeper implications regarding the stress and emotions of other people too. Not just me, my assistant, and sometimes colleagues I used to work closely with were also struggling, sometimes even more, for years.
What’s Next?
More attention should be paid to the issue of how companies prepare former employees to face the next phase of life, the ex-employee said. Although Google is said to have provided its laid-off employees with severance pay and counselling on what to do next, nobody seemed to pay attention to the emotional impact of the cut.
Layoffs are still present in the tech industry; therefore, reading such stories is a wake-up call for the always corporate-orientated companies. Still, for most of the population, the course of the recovery process remains unclear.
