Microsoft accounts to go fully passwordless!
Seems, like the tech giant, Microsoft is aware of the problem of remembering too many passwords. That’s why it has finally taken this problem into account and devised a solution for it.
The company is going to create a “passwordless” account for all its users across various services such as Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft OneDrive, etc. That means they can now access these services without having to remember their passwords.
This change is a result of the hike in cyberattacks since the last year when the pandemic arose. The employees were working from home, thus, hackers had the chance to infiltrate the company’s security systems. Passwords are the easiest to be compromised and Microsoft saw many security breaches because of this. The passwords are put for sale on the dark web, where they are used to hack further services after purchasing.
Some people have the tendency to keep the same/similar passwords for all accounts which takes the hacker an easy guess! Thus, all the systems and services are breached. According to Microsoft, 579 password attacks occur every second.
Other alternatives for passwords:
- The users can sign in through Microsoft’s authenticator app- produces a unique number login code
- They can sign in through Windows Hello- through facial recognition, fingerprint, or unique pin.
- Through an external security key like a USB with the login info already stored in it.
- By registering a phone number for verification code.
Microsoft has stood out as an extraordinary and unique example of creating a “passwordless future”. Although most of the company employees were using this feature till now, it will now be available for common users very soon.
