The Earth has a new eye: NASA’s Landsat- 9
Stretching the time to 50 years back, the Landsat satellite is a part of the same series where the space-giant, NASAis launching satellites into Earth’s orbit for various reasons. The satellite was sent upwards in the sky on an Atlas rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base at 11:12 local time. It is remarkable in its mission because no other remote-sensing system has kept such a continuous record of the changing state of our planet.

Scientists exclaimed that it’s kind of like having a permanent eye on planet Earth. It has been launched by the collaboration of NASA and the US Geological Survey (USGS).
To know more about the Landsat program, refer to NASA’s Landsat homepage.
The main concepts covered by the Landsat are:
- the growth of the cosmopolitan cities,
- the extent of farming
- the evolving outlines of coasts, forests, deserts, and glaciers.
- It stays in the orbit and monitors everything, even the acute topics like the behavior of the fauna.

- The changing ecosystems, and their recovery.
- Areas of increased plant cover at high latitudes due to a warming climate.
- Climate change and its effects
- The decline in vegetation and flora, in the semi-arid region

An interesting fact about the Landsat is that it is made to discover the Earth’s features as acute as 30m. Now, the new Landsat is being developed to give an even minimalistic view. The clearer the images available to the scientists, the better would be earth’s research.
